Listed below are some of our favourite restaurants within a thirty minute radius of Le Logis. Do note that during the summer months (beginning 1st May) there is a pretty snack bar/restaurant in Dompierre (next to the boulangerie) that serves lunch and evening meals (including alcohol) and as it’s an easy stroll from Le Logis, there is no need to designate an alcohol-free driver!
Clos des Cours, situated on the edge of the pedestrian zone of the historic centre of Saintes. Run by chef Jean-Luc and his wife Virginie, this modern chic restaurant has been in the Michelin guide since 2010, and is one of our favourite restaurants in the region. La Ribaudiere is a Michelin starred restaurant in Bourg Charente, about 25 minutes drive from Le Logis. Aside from the superb food and service that one would expect from a Michelin-starred restaurant, the restaurant has a wonderful terrace overlooking the Charente river. A very special place for a wonderful lunch or dinner – highly recommended. www.laribaudiere.com.

Le Relais du Bois St. Georges is a hotel and restaurant gastronomique situated on the outskirts of Saintes. The dining area is airy and light, the food excellent and the views across the beautiful gardens and ornamental ponds exceptional – in summer, there are tables on the terrace outside which makes for a very pleasant lunch-setting indeed, although the resident swans occasionally have to be discouraged from “begging” at the tables! www.relaisdubois.com.

Chateau de l’Yeuse at Cognac is an iconic hotel with a gourmet restaurant (Table de l’Yeuse) and a stunning terrace overlooking the Charente river valley. The hotel has a wonderful “jardin respectuese” (respectful garden) showcasing the biodiversity of plant life in the Charente valley, and much of the vegetables and fruit used in the restaurant are grown here. The garden can be visited daily for a small fee, and during the summer months on selected evenings you can visit the gardens together with the restaurant Chef and choose the ingredients to create your own unique pizza! http://www.yeuse.fr

Restaurant du Chateau, situated in the main town square of the picturesque town of Jarnac, is about 30 minutes from LeLogis. Taking its name from the Courvoisier Chateau on the other side of the square, the food is superb and the service excellent. Well worth the trip! www.restaurant-du-chateau.com.

Le Moulin de la Baine is a ten minute drive from Le Logis, and is housed in an old mill spanning one of the forks in the Charente river. It can be very busy at lunchtimes in the summer when coachloads of tourists arrive (it seats upward of 200) but is quieter in the evenings and has a lovely terrace overlooking the river. www.moulin-baine.com.

L’Essille at Bussac (department 16) is a 25 minute drive from Le Logis, and is housed in a charming building with interesting interior decoration. The food and the service is excellent – the “truffle extravaganza” menu , when available, is highly recommended (from personal experience!). www.hotel-restaurant-essille.com
